Primary School Improvement Project in Muong Cha Area Development Programme

A note from Lena: In 2024, I visited Lùng Thàng 1 Primary School in Muong Cha with World Vision Singapore. What I saw stayed with me. I knew I wanted to do something about it, and I'm hoping you'll join me.

Every morning, 22 children at Lùng Thàng 1 Primary School make their way up and down a steep, muddy slope to get to school. With no proper fence, the path is unsafe and children risk falling. The school also lacks hygienic toilets and a reliable clean water supply for handwashing, and its current facilities fall short of what the community needs.

Hear firsthand from a student and teacher on the needs of the school:

We need around S$28,000 to complete this school improvement project. With the funds raised, children at this school will benefit from:

• a concrete pathway to the school entrance
• a school gate
• a school fence
• a playground, 72 square metres
• toilets and bathrooms, 15 square metres, with separate rooms for boys and girls
• clean water systems supplying the toilets and bathrooms

Thanks to a group of World Vision supporters who fundraised earlier, more than half of this amount has already been raised, covering the pathway, gate, fence, and playground. We're now fundraising for the remaining S$13,624, the cost of proper sanitation for toilets, bathrooms, and a clean water supply. 

The good news is that construction work for sanitation is already underway, funded through World Vision's Area Development Programme budget for Muong Cha community. Funds raised through this campaign will go towards replenishing the ADP budget spent on this construction, so it can be redirected to support other needs in the school.

In two years, student intake is expected to double to about 42 children, so these facilities will benefit even more of them.
