Dear Friends,

We are members of Group 2, from Quan Son District, Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. There are 9 women in our group and we all have children. All of us cultivate and breed for our livelihood. To maintain and/or expand our business models, we would like to get 9 loans of $11,430 for our 9 members (an average loan is S1,269).

Ms. Ha Thi Xuon is one of our members in group. She lives in a poor condition with her husband and 2 children (one is 10 years old and other is 2 years old). Her family’s income mostly comes from raising some pigs, and selling fish at the end of year. Her husband is a part-time worker with unstable income. Therefore, all their income is never enough for entire family.

Ms. Xuon shares, “Due to the lack of economic conditions and no capital to invest in livestock, we could not expand our current pig herd. But at all cost, I always try to maintain this small livestock model because I have a strong hope that this model will bring my children more nutritious meals and more income for my family”.

This is a great chance for her to get a loan of $1,218 to expand her current business model. With a bigger pig herd, she hopes that she and her husband will have a stable job to give their children good conditions for living and education.

Another member is Ms. Vi Thi Thuc. Her husband had a liver problem a few years after they got married. Since then, the family’s income burden has fallen on her shoulders. Unfortunately, she has a problem with her fertility and she decided to adopt a little boy after 15 years of marriage. The boy is really plump and healthy, and 10 years old now. Despite working so hard, their family is still living in a near-poor condition. They have a sweet potato garden and use its leaves for the food of their pig herd. Ms. Thuc’s husband sometimes is hired by the neighbours, but this work cannot cover all their daily expenses. As shared by Ms. Thuc, “Because we never have enough capital to invest in breeding, so I can only raise a few pigs. I would like to borrow $1,353 to buy more pigs and expand this model. I think if this model is successful, the income will be improved much more than it was before”.
